New achievements

Julian has acquired some impressive new skills, and most of them coincided right with his first birthday. He can now walk (he set a new record this morning with 10 steps in a row), climb up and down the stairs, and feed himself finger foods. His favorite finger foods are grated cheese, blueberries, cheerios, slices of peach and banana and pieces of bread. Of course, for every morsel that makes it to his mouth, Zack gets 2 or 3. Julian's new mobility has given him a real confidence boost, though it has brought some unpleasant bumps and falls. Yesterday I noticed that he had already chipped one of his perfect new teeth. Dad and Mom spend a lot of time chasing after him and supervising the stair climbing. We're hoping that the walking and climbing will wear HIM out (as well as us) and help him sleep longer. For two days in a row now he has slept until ALMOST 6 am instead of his usual 4:30 am wake up time.
We are leaving for Maine in 2 days for a visit with Hilary's family. We look forward to introducing Julian to sandy beaches, the ocean, Maine blueberries (different from the Oregon variety) and the Eastern time zone (which MIGHT translate into even later wake up times if we're lucky. Keep your fingers crossed!). We're also looking forward to watching him interact with cousins Henry and Ruby, and our dear friend Betsy's son Moby.
We bought a family membership to the children's museum and have enjoyed afternoons there with Julian. Photos of him playing there with his friend Justin can be seen at: http://kilk.com/justin/
Stay tuned for more photos after we get back from vacation. They will feature the rather uneven new haircut that we gave him this week. Granted, neither David nor Hilary have ever cut hair before, but we're sure it would have been straighter if he hadn't been wriggling around the whole time!
